“Strange name for a design studio, but I like it, it sounds good.”
When we started sharing our project, this was the most common comment from families, friends and collaborators. Ours was: “I think we hit the nail on the head: habemus nomen.”
The idea of creating a professional reality together had been in the air for a long time, perhaps always, but we wanted to evaluate it carefully and take the right time to reflect.
We met in 2010, while we were both attending the IUAV University in Venice. We were taking two different courses (Industrial Design - Ale and Visual and Multimedia Communications - Chris), so we met by chance. We took the same exam and then we didn't see each other for years. But right from the start there was harmony.
A few years later, we found ourselves, once again by chance, within the same design studio, but in separate teams: Industrial Designer - Ale, UX/UI Designer - Chris. Although skills and competencies were very different, the projects we worked on with four hands confirmed that we had great mutual respect and something in common in planning and planning, in the way of doing and being a team.
Then, once again, our paths were divided to have other experiences including specialized master's degrees, employment in agencies, new collaborations and startups.
In summer 2023, we meet again: we are both freelance designers and we start collaborating on a project that combines industrial design and user experience design. It couldn't be a coincidence anymore!
Afterwards, it went more or less like this:
“Ok, let's work together! But what name do we give each other?”
“Well, we're two heavyweights: we take ourselves very seriously at work, but we know when it's time to lighten up and joke around. We are both like this and we should find a way to communicate this.”
“Heavy and at the same time light... dinosaurs come to mind, but those in comics, cartoons.”
“Mmmmm... onomatopoeias come to mind. It could be Roar.”
“I like it, but maybe a little aggressive, let's think about it.”
Ok, this is a summary. In reality, there were several days (and nights) of brainstorming and research, more than 150 names (and beers) on the table.
At a certain point we imagined ourselves faced with Fagnani and her cult question: “You, what beast do you feel like?”
And our response, in unison, was: 'We are Rawr. '
We immediately knew that it was the right name for us.
The right sound to face this challenge together.
